Wilsonville Little League Parent Code of Conduct

As a Wilsonville Little League parent or guardian/family member, I WILL:

  • Remember that children participate to have fun.

  • Be a positive role model for my child and encourage sportsmanship.

  • Teach my child to play by the rules and resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence.

  • Demand that my child treats coaches, officials, other parents, and players with respect regardless of race, creed, color, sex, religion, or ability.

  • Teach my child that doing one’s best is more important than winning.

  • Praise my child for competing fairly and trying hard.

  • Promote the emotional and physical well-being of athletes ahead of my desire to win.

  • Respect the officials and their authority during games.

  • Teach my child to respect their coaches, teammates, opponents, and officials.

 

As a Wilsonville Little League parent or guardian/family member, I WILL NOT:

  • Force my child to participate against their will.

  • Engage in any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, player, or parent.

  • Boo, taunt, refuse to shake hands, or use profane language.

  • Encourage any behaviors or practices that would endanger the health and well-being of the athletes.

  • Ridicule or yell at my child or other participants for making a mistake or losing a game.

  • Use drugs, tobacco, or alcohol at any league event.

  • Coach my child or other players during games and practices, unless I am a coach. This includes not approaching the dugout unless asked to do so by the coach.

Player Code of Conduct

As a player in Wilsonville Little League, I understand that I am expected to abide by the Player’s Code of Conduct guidelines described below:

  • I will respect the game, the game rules, teammates, opponents, coaches, and umpires.

  • I will never argue or make comments on an umpire’s call, either from the batter’s box, field, or bench.

  • I will never argue a coach’s decision but will settle disagreements with coaches and other players in a confidential/private manner after games and practices, away from other players.

  • I will never fault other players when mistakes occur.

  • I will always listen to and look at a coach while they are talking.

  • I will treat coaches, officials, bystanders, and other players with respect regardless of race, creed, color, sex, religion, or ability.

  • I understand that swearing, intentionally throwing equipment or any other actions that detract from the game or endanger others can result in immediate removal from the game and possible suspension.

  • I will work hard, take pride in myself and my team, and give my best on the ball field and in the dugout.

  • I will make every effort to maximize my playing ability, lead by example, and always play by the rules.

  • I will always show up on time and ready to participate in games and practices.

  • I understand that the goals of playing Wilsonville Little League are to have fun, develop my baseball skills, and create team and community camaraderie.


Coaches Code of Conduct

As a manager or coach, I hereby pledge to provide positive support, care, and encouragement for each child participating in Wilsonville Little League by following this Code of Conduct:

  • I will demonstrate positive support for all umpires, players, managers, and coaches (including those of an opposing team). This applies to every game, practice, or any other league event.

  • I will place the emotional and physical well-being of all children on all teams ahead of any personal desire to win.

  • I will model and require that my players treat all other players, coaches, umpires, league officials, and parents respectfully regardless of race, creed, color, sex, religion, or ability.

  • I will insist that my players are in a safe and healthy environment.

  • I will demand a drug, alcohol, and tobacco-free sports environment for my players and agree to assist by refraining from their use at all Wilsonville Little League games, practices, and events.

  • I will remember that league baseball is for children and not for adults.

  • I will do all I can to make the game fun and safe for all the children involved.

  • I understand that Wilsonville Little League is a volunteer organization that requires all parents to participate in activities such as field preparation, fundraising, scorekeeping, and designated team parenting. I therefore agree to enlist the support of all the parents of my players in this effort.

  • I agree to be trained in the responsibilities of being a Team Manager or Coach, including attending all manager meetings and training clinics.

Coach and Player Agent Corrective Action

Corrective action can be initiated by a Manager, Coach, or Umpire on the field or after an incident by a Player Agent. 


The following are examples of incidents or behaviors that may result in corrective action:


  • Intentional throwing of equipment, on the field or in the dugout.

  • Use of foul, racially charged, discriminatory language or harassment of other players.

  • Arguing with play calls or disrespect of umpires, coaches, or players.

  • General disrespect for teammates, team, or league property including fields and dugout.


The following are examples of corrective actions that may be taken, both in real-time at the fields and after the fact with a Player Agent:


  • Cardio exercise to eliminate excess energy, such as running laps.

  • Removal from the game or practice to the bench.

  • The player’s parent or guardian may be required to attend future practices and/or games.

  • The player may be sent home with a future review of behavior and additional corrective action from the Player Agent and/or Board.


Board Involvement Corrective Action

When patterns of behavior are identified, the Board may become involved with corrective action similar to the following:


  • In-game suspensions during which the player must attend the game but will not play.

  • Out-of-play suspensions during which the player is asked to refrain from attending any games or practices for a period of time.

  • As outlined in the Wilsonville Little League Constitution, the Board may meet to facilitate the removal of any Player, Coach, Manager, Board Member, or Umpire when the conduct of such a person is detrimental to the best interest of Wilsonville Little League.
